Coming out of Hibernation

So it’s probably been clear from my radio silence that I’ve been experiencing some burnout. Part of the reason I wanted to do this blog in the first place was to record all my efforts at doing stuff because I have cycles that I go through, namely: get really passionate about something -> focus all my efforts on that something -> burn out on that something -> hibernation.

So I’ve been in hibernation for a while, though not because of the traditional cycle above (which I will talk about in another post at length as it is something that constantly plagues me and any creative efforts). This is mostly due to a health thing I have going on right now that I might talk about in the future. Another reason is my depression has reared its ugly head once more, and when that happens it’s all I can do to maintain my day to day existence. There are up sides to this particular episode (probably, maybe not the right term? you get what I’m saying though). For one, I no longer have to commute for my job as I work remotely. Working from home and not in front of other people significantly reduces the amount of desperation I feel during one of these episodes.

I had stopped doing any hobby related activities and I had stopped exercising (which I had finally started to do regularly for the first time in my life!). I stopped doing all these things for good reason but the exercise is important to pick back up to help manage my mental state. And the longer I work in a career I’m not extremely passionate about, the more desperate I start feeling to make something happen with my side interests.

I don’t particularly want to dwell on depression, but I figured I’d get my feelings on the subject down on this blog of mine. In any case, I’m working really hard to finally finish some projects. Not even for outside validation necessarily (though in the case of novel writing, that’s certainly one nice goal) but just to prove to myself that I am capable.
